Prom Spot - Prom Spotlight: Meghan & Nick in Davenport, IA

Meghan has liked Nick for over two years -- they're great friends, and they even went to last year's junior prom together and had a great time. When she found out that Nick was planning to ask her again this year, Meghan was thrilled. "It was a dream come true," she says.

GETTING THE LOOK "I didn't start planning until he asked me," Meghan admits. This may have cost her some time, since Nick held off popping the question because his friend was also planning to ask Meghan to prom! But once everything was worked out, Meghan got her act together. "I wasn't a stress case like last year," she tells us. She headed to a special prom shop over an hour away ("My mom let me skip school," Meghan confides) where she spotted the perfect dress. "I went into the day looking for a purple strapless," she says. "I was very happy with my find." She scored a pair of beaded flip-flops at the same store, as well as a sparkly choker to match earrings she already owned.

TOPPING IT OFF Seeking a do that was "sort of spiky and messy looking," Meghan went to a local salon to get her hair done for prom. She admits she was not thrilled with how it turned out. "But I was satisfied," she says, and adds, "I put in three purple flowers to match my dress." Meghan did her own makeup. "Nothing too fancy, but it looked good," she tells us. Prior to prom, Meghan loaned Nick the shawl that came with her dress to give him an idea as to what type of corsage he should get. He presented Meghan with a corsage of white roses and stephanotis, tied with a purple ribbon that matched her dress ("Gorgeous," she tells us). Meghan gave Nick a white rose boutonniere with a tiny purple bloom on each side.

DRESS DISTRESS The evening began with a major dress crisis. Because her dress was strapless, Meghan had bought special dress tape to hold it up. But it wasn't working! "It wouldn't stay up at all!" Meghan laughs. "My dress was so heavy from the beading." She and her mom tried desperately to fix it but in the end, they decided to throw caution to the wind. "I was like, 'You know what? He'll like it if it falls down, so forget it!'" While Meghan and her mom were dealing with the dress, Nick came to pick Meghan up -- and ended up waiting downstairs with her dad for half an hour!

A ROMANTIC EVENING Finally, after taking some pictures, Meghan and Nick met up with their friends for dinner at a nearby restaurant and then took a walk down to the Mississippi River. "It was beautiful," Meghan recalls. "I was cold, so [Nick] put his tux jacket over my shoulders!" The theme of the prom was Falling for You ("Very true!" Meghan jokes), but despite the romantic idea, according to Meghan, "the decorations were just okay." Meghan made the most of it anyway -- and danced her heart out! "I danced to every song played," she says. "Dancing with Nick was the best -- he's just an awesome guy and a great dancer!" Their prom song was "Take My Breath Away," from Top Gun ("a good prom song," in Meghan's opinion).

THE AFTER PARTY When the dance ended, Meghan and Nick drove to their high school gym for the after-prom party. "After we changed and took a break for a bit," Meghan says, "we hit the party!" Everyone enjoyed games, prizes, food, and even a hypnotist. The after-prom party lasted from midnight to 4 a.m. Meghan enjoyed every minute, and then headed to a big sleepover at a friend's house. "We just lounged around telling stories," Meghan remembers. "We got about two hours of sleep!"
